Make a Folded Felt Gift Box

created at: 11/04/2010

These gorgeous felt gift boxes by DIY Maven are not only cute and easy to make, they are also great for many occasions!  Make them in your wedding colours and fill with sugar coated almonds to use as bomboniere/favour boxes for your wedding - they will look great adorning your tables and your guests will love the personal touch of a handmade item. Or with Christmas approaching, whip up a few in Christmas colours - imagine how cute they will look sitting under your tree. The Bride's Diary team also loves the idea of using them as tree decorations - fill them with candy canes and nestle them amongst your tees branches for a very chic christmas tree!

What you need:

• one 8″ x 11″ piece of heavy felt from the craft store, NOT the flimsy kind
• scissors
• craft knife and cutting mat, optional but helpful
• doo-dads to decorate the box
• a pencil

• Print and then cut out the template to create a pattern.
• Trace the pattern onto the felt.
• Using the scissors, cut the image from the felt; if you have one, use the craft knife to cut the little, rectangular slots (it's easier than using the scissors).

• Depending upon the thickness of your felt, you might have to adjust the openings of the trapezoidal opening.

• To fold up the gift box, fold the sides with the trapezoidal slots up first and tuck the tabs into the rectangular slots in one of the other two sides.

• After you've tucked your gift into the box, fold up the last side and tuck the remaining tabs into its rectangular slot.
